On my last letter, I spoke a little about the basics of building relationships which is a major key to your success. I'm sure you've heard the famous saying: "In order to be the best salesperson, you must become the best person". Remember that! There are going to be many other letters on tips and tricks on how to build strong relationships in order for people to buy into you and what you offer.
Now, let's talk about expanding your contacts. It is a colossal part of your personal growth to network consistently in order to expand your connections. In the course of meeting new people and forming your approach, you will start developing an uncontrollable desire to do it more and more, and it will bring out a magnificent contagious person in you. Then you will have a new skill to admire. To have the skill of "people" is one of power, even though it takes much practice.
The comfort zone is a dangerous spot to be in if you want to grow your contacts. So many people get in a comfort state thinking that the phone and some emails can increase relationships and build strong contacts. If the goal is to grow, you must get off your butt and network. I'm going to rephrase one of Jeffrey Gitomer's quote by implementing a little of my style. "If you are in sales, and you don't network, you don't know jack about sales".
Here are some tips and tricks on how to begin to network. First, detach completely from people that bring you down or constantly whine about everything around them. Even if they appeal to you, they are appealing to your weaknesses. It is important to associate with positive people that will make you grow. That step is a hard one, but you cannot have positive results by relating to negative people. Association with champions, will make you a champ. Now, join a networking group, never miss a business after hour, a baby shower, a get together or a barbecue. Overcome your fear of meeting people by taking action. Getting out of your comfort zone allows you to improve and develop valuable skills. It is FUN!

This morning I went to one of my usual networking events and met with these two young gentlemen. Zac and Patrick own HD Counseling providing the opportunity and time for clients to address the issues that hold them back from the life they would like to live. That is a huge statement that brings value to many people. How else would I have met these young entrepreneurs? I did it through networking. I'm looking forward to growing a strong relationship as they are young motivated and care for people. |
