A couple of weeks ago I delivered a speech to a group of Healthcare Professionals and after I was done, everyone introduced themselves to the group. Right before the last person, a very loving lady introduced herself as a breast cancer survivor and everyone applauded as a response to her great accomplishment. Right after her, the last person introduced himself with the following words: "I'm sure our speaker would agree that breasts are beautiful. They feed our young, they look great on women and I, for one, love them. Since we heard our speaker talk today about health, I think it is critical for us to take care of ourselves and be aware that we are losing not only great looking breasts, but women as well due to breast cancer". The gentleman owns a Funeral Home and had all eyes and ears on him with his introduction. After listening to 50 plus people talk about what they do, what a way to revive the crowd!
I felt compelled to go meet this unique and charming individual. It is common for people from the audience to greet the speaker, but in this particular occasion, I found myself making sure that I shook his hand before I left.
After reading some of my Chaaarge emails, Mr. Alan Trueba offered to have a meeting with me today. Everything about today read like a "bad" day to meet. It had been raining all day, there were two accidents on the way to meeting Mr. Trueba and I had a lot of unfinished work to do. By now you know that the weather should never be an excuse for you not to take advantage of an opportunity.
I tweeted today: "Things happen which try to keep you from great opportunities. It is your choice whether you let them stop you, or you move through them."
The meeting of Alan and myself was the perfect description of the word "rapport". Perfect synchronization! Needless to say that we even took out our vitamins at the same time. I listened to his positive attitude, motivating stories and how he encourages others to earn more than they could ever think of. All this time, I'm smiling and enjoying a good time. Alan told the story of how he opened a fortune cookie last week and it said: "A great opportunity will come to you soon". He explained how opportunity is created by your actions and how it only favors those who take it. I agree with him, and this time, the fortune cookie was right! It would've been wrong if he hadn't reached out to me. I look forward to meeting Alan again and seeing what two positive minds and action takers can accomplish.
Life gives you opportunities every day. But sometimes you are too focused on things that don't give you much fruit and you miss them. The opportunity of meeting new people is by far one of the most rewarding opportunities you will ever have. Don't let the weather or any other excuse keep you from meeting new people that could open dozens of doors for you. Instead of thinking how things are stopping you from achieving, focus on ways and solutions to achieve, regardless of the obstacles that are thrown your way. Follow your fortune. What does it say?
